ASL-250 Linguistics of American Sign Language

This course is designed to increase knowledge and skills necessary to linguistically analyze American Sign Language (ASL). Emphasis is placed on applying principles of phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, discourse, and sociolinguistics, along with opportunities to observe and analyze language use through field experience. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the basic linguistics of ASL through a variety of assessment methods and real-world applications.
