Description
The Associate Degree Nursing Program is approved by the North Carolina State Board of Nursing. Graduates of this program are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX-RN), which is the national licensing exam for registered nurses. Upon completion of this program, the graduate nurse will demonstrate professional nursing behaviors incorporating personal responsibility and accountability for continued competence, collaborate effectively with individuals, families, and members of the healthcare team to achieve positive individual and organizational outcomes, provide holistic assessments of individuals and record and report the results of these assessments, formulate evidence-based clinical judgments and management decisions, provide safe and effective nursing care across the lifespan to culturally diverse individuals and families incorporating documented best practices, and develop a teaching plan for individuals and/or the nursing team. Throughout the curriculum students acquire knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary for the entry level registered nurse to practice in a dynamic environment and to meet healthcare needs of individuals and families.
There are special admission procedures for the Associate Degree Nursing program including, but not limited to, completing a high school or college level biology course with a grade of 'C' or better, and an active and unencumbered license as a Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of North Carolina or other compact state. Applicants must provide verification of at least 12 months of full-time employment as a LPN. Applicants must also complete the ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam with a composite score of 67 or higher. Applicants must also have successful completion (grade of "C" or higher) of supportive courses associated with the LPN to RN program. Refer to admissions procedures document located on the website: https://www.blueridge.edu/programs-courses/healthcare/associate-degree-nursing/
NOTE: Meeting all admission requirements does not guarantee placement into the LPN to RN option. Space is limited to available seats.
Students may be required to demonstrate college readiness as a result of high school GPA or pre-enrollment placement tests. Therefore, the student may need more than the minimum number of semester hours listed for graduation. Consult a program advisor for more information. This is a three semester program of NUR courses beginning in the summer term. Students will merge into the second year of the existing ADN program and complete in Spring. A course fee is required for all NUR prefix courses.
* Students will receive 14 credit hours of credit for the LPN license and will receive transfer credit for NUR-11, NUR-112, NUR-114 and NUR-211.
