Description

The Associate in Fine Arts in Visual Arts degree shall be granted for a planned program of study consisting of a minimum of 60 semester hours of college transfer courses. Within the degree program, the institution shall include opportunities for the achievement of competence in reading, writing, oral communication, fundamental mathematical skills, and basic computer use.

This curriculum complies with the standard approved by the State Board of Community Colleges.

Students may be required to take developmental courses in Math and/or English as a result of high school GPA or pre-enrollment placement tests. Therefore, the student may need more than the minimum number of semester hours listed for graduation. Consult a program advisor for more information.

Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of this program, students will:

  • Create artwork that is technically and conceptually well-crafted using the tools and concepts appropriate to the discipline.
  • Create a professional portfolio of work.
  • Apply the elements of art and principles of design to make aesthetically-informed judgements and decisions, resulting in the creation of personally-driven, well crafted works of 2D and 3D art.
  • Communicate using the language and vocabulary of fine art in both written and verbal form.
  • Articulate the history and traditions of the discipline.
